How to Import Data into NodeXL from various Social Network sites


How to Import Data into NodeXL

NodeXL  offers multiple ways to import data for analysing. In fact, it may be the only tool which offers such vast options to an end user. When you press the import button found on left corner of NodeXL ribbon, you are presented with several options (as given in figure below) which will be described later in the tutorial.

The ways to import data has been divided into five main categories which will be explained below

1)    Importing from other Social Network Analysing Tools

You may import a saved file from Social Network Analysis tools like Pajek or UCINET.

2)    Importing from an already existing workbook

If you have an already existing workbook with list of friends and their relationship with one another, you may import the workbook and use it visualize your network.

3)    Importing from Email Network

You can directly import your Email network if you use an Email client like Outloook, Thunderbird etc which have Indexing enabled on Microsoft Windows.

4)    Importing from Twitter or YouTube/Flickr

The plugin gives you option to import network of your page and channel on social networking sites.

5)    Import using third party importers 

These importers like Social Net Importer, VOSON give you many options to how to import data and upto what level.
